Main deck maintenance plays a crucial role in preserving a vessel's structural integrity and minimizing the risks of corrosion. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of main deck maintenance on the MV. Malahayati Baruna, identify the obstacles hindering its effectiveness, and formulate optimization strategies. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach integrated with fishbone analysis, data were gathered through field observations, interviews, and documentation studies. The findings indicate that current maintenance management remains largely corrective and is not yet fully aligned with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Key identified constraints include ineffective planning, weak supervision, and extreme maritime environmental conditions, resulting in paint peeling and widespread oxidation. To address these issues, this research recommends a systematic division of work areas, reinforced supervision by deck officers, and human resource development through consistent tool box meetings. Implementing these strategic measures is expected to mitigate corrosion rates, thereby ensuring operational safety and maritime efficiency.
